The Best and Worst U.S. Cities for a Staycation
Summer is quickly approaching. Although it would be great to hop on a flight to somewhere mind blowing and spend weeks sauntering about without a care in the world, that isn't always feasible. Still, sometimes you just need a break from reality. That's where a staycation comes in.
Wallet hub has rolled out a list of the best and worst cities for a staycation, and we've teased out our top five.
San Diego, CA
With over 260 days of sunshine every year and an average temperature of 64°F, San Diego is home to over 1.3 million people. Great restaurants, culture and quaint neighborhoods abound - not to mention over 70 miles of gorgeous coastline. With tons of things to see and places to relax, San Diego is a great location for any type of staycation.
Seattleites will tell you that the city gets less rain than many more popular areas of the country. This is true, but it's not so much the rain that people complain about, but rather the overcast skies that occupy a good chunk of the city's year. That being said, all that rain and overcast sky leads to a lush landscape that makes this city one of the most beautiful in America. With no shortage of restaurants, bars, hiking trails, lakes, and landscapes to behold, Seattle is an excellent city to kick back or explore.
An increasingly popular tourist destination, Atlanta also has much to offer locals interested in a staycation. With it's southern charm and urban sophistication, Atlanta (the capital of Georgia) offers much to see and do. From food and wine festivals, to fantastic music venues, to a number of historical sites and museums, there is plenty to see and do in this popular town.
San Francisco, CA
San Francisco is a city on the go, but that doesn't mean there aren't a plethora of opportunities to relax as well. Spend some time on Twin Peaks, go for a mindful walk along the Golden Gate Bridge, hop over to Sausalito and pretend like you're a world away. Whether you're looking for a staycation packed with adventure, or to take it easy, San Francisco can fit the bill.
Located along Florida's Gulf Coast, Tampa offers a diversity of staycation opportunities regardless of the type of staycation that you have in mind. Whether it's spending some time at the Museum of Art, experiencing the thrill of Busch Gardens, taking in the historic sites and sounds of Ybor City, or enjoying one of the city's beautiful beaches, Tampa offers much to do for the staycationer.
