Snippet: The Road to True Change in Your Life
Changing your life, improving yourself, switching gears to follow your heart – none of these things are simple.
“Change your life”“Change your attitude”“Change your career”
The idea of change, a word that means to make or become different, taps into our desire for newness. Often used to get us to buy into things or ideas that we probably don’t need, change is often advertised as something that is easy to come by. We frequently hear things like...
“Buy this book and your life will change forever!” “Try this diet and watch your body change overnight!”
Despite how advertising would make it seem, here is the truth about any sort of change in your life.
True change is not easy.
Changing your life, improving yourself, switching gears to follow your heart – none of these things are simple. The road to change is littered with setbacks, pitfalls, and disappointments. True and meaningful change is challenging to achieve.
So, what does this mean for us as human beings?
It means that falling flat or missing the mark on the road to any sort of change in your life, is to be expected. You don’t fail just because you hit a roadblock. You fail when you hit a roadblock and decide to give up.
One day in the near future, grab your journal and jot down one thing you would like to change in your life. It could be your eating habits, your outlook, or your openness to others or new situations. It could be anything. The only requirement is that it be something within your power to change.
Once you have decided on that thing you would like to change, spend a day or so sitting with it and thinking about it. How will it help you lead a better life, be a happier human being, or improve your relationships with others?
When you have answered those questions make a plan to change, and devote yourself to seeing that change through to the end.
It won’t be easy.
But it will be worth it.
